K.D. Lang Files for Dissolution of Domestic Partnership
This week several news sources reported that popular singer, K.D. Lang, has decided to split from her long-time girlfriend. According to reports, Lang filed paperwork to officially dissolve her domestic partnership with her companion. Back in 2009, the couple registered for domestic partnership. However, their union came to an end one year and nine months later. The two became involved after meeting one another through a Buddhist teacher in 2003.
In the some states, a domestic partnership allows a same-sex couple certain rights. For instance, when a same-sex couple decides to terminate their relationship, one party may seek spousal support. Another benefit of a domestic partnership is that if one partner is in the hospital, the other will have the legal right to make decisions related to his/her partner's health.
